International Workshop on Best Practices in Physics-based Fault Rupture Models for Seismic Hazard Assessment of Nuclear Installations (BestPSHANI)

Vienna, Austria
18-20 November 2015

Visit the conference website.

Swissnuclear, the Japan Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA), Japan Nuclear Safety Institute (JANSI), the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are organizing a workshop on “Best Practices in Physics-based Fault Rupture Models for Seismic Hazard Assessment of Nuclear Installations (BestPSHANI)” to take place at the IAEA headquarter in Vienna, the days 18-20 November 2015. The day 21th is planned a field trip for interested people to visit nuclear installations. In this workshop we aim to gather experts in seismology and earthquake engineering, from practitioners to earthquake scientists, to discuss the applicability of the so called physics-based fault rupture models for site-specific hazards assessment of nuclear installations. We will evaluate the current practice of seismic hazard assessment, the need of physics-based models and the expectation from end users for ground motion prediction. The workshop will be supported by well recognized earthquake scientists and earthquake engineers as invited talks specially dedicated to the topic. We welcome innovative studies on the topics mentioned above, with strong emphasis placed on practical applications of seismic hazard assessment. View the brochure.
