Outreach Activities

How can the general public get in and actually see, touch and feel what NEES is doing?

NEES holds regularly scheduled site tours, school visits and partners with nationwide programs to deliver fun experiences that will introduce you to earthquake engineering. You will find lists of those programs, archived, current and upcoming below.

an outreach activity about liquefactionNEES hosts outreach events in your local area and lessons you can explore here in the NEESacademy. Below are links to NEES test facilities that hold public events in your area as well as several museums with exhibits on earthquake engineering

Contact us to explore events that can be held in your local area so the community can learn more about earthquake science, earthquake engineering and NEES.

Check out the Highlight Gallery for documents detailing NEES achievements in research. These stories describe projects ranging from large scale physical experiments related to earthquake engineering to small scale virtual tools. Also look for the number of  outreach activities hosted by NEES affiliates from across the country. Some may be in your area.

You will find NEES in the news to be a valuable source for learning more about current events both inside and outside the industry of earthquake engineering.

Events are listed below and are categorized into current, past and future events. Click an event for more information.

Location Event
Washington, DC Washington DC Engineering Family Day: The annual Washington DC Engineering Family Day is enjoyed by over six thousand visitors to the National Building Museum every February. The festival features dozens of hands-on activities provided by local engineering chapters and national organizations. Every year at the start of Engineer's Week, the impressive main hall of the National Building Museum is taken over by thousands of children of all ages experiencing the excitement of engineering. NSF and NEEScomm collaborated to present the “Tsunami Lego Challenge”. Click here for data on the effectiveness of this activity.
