The short answer is YES. The main purpose of any repository is that data are stored safely, so that they can be eventually retrieved and used by the data creators and other users in the future. One of the main tasks of curation is to make sure that no corruption of data files occurs and every manipulation with data and metadata is tracked and documented. Software packages monitor the health of the whole repository system, and all data files are part of the curation process.
