Abstract

A NEES project focused on the seismic behavior of precast concretecladding panels generally used as building facades, also known as the PathwaysResearch Project, has just recently completed the testing phase. The testedconcrete panels have limited damage and are largely intact. Rather than dumpingthem in a landfill, the panels have been donated to the city of Richmond, CA tobe used in the landscaping for a new youth services center. This project hopesto develop a standard process for the adaptive reuse of these kinds of facadesystems. There are many viable sources of these types of panels such as wasteproduct from precast concrete manufacturers, buildings undergoing renovation, etc.
