Dear Sirs,

could you please let me know if it is possible to run more than one opensees analysis at the same time ? is one single opensees analysis going to finish faster than two or three equally large analyses running at the same time ?

Many Thanks, Giovanni

Very good question. YES, It is possible to run opensees analysis concurrently.

The answer to how fast concurrent jobs will run, depends on how much resource is applied. Since 3 runs would use a relatively small number of compute resource compared to the total available, they should run as fast as a single run. Simply start multiple opensees tool sessions.

Now if you want to run dozens of jobs, you could overwhelm the 32 cores we currently have available on the hub for simulation, especially if there are other people using the system at the same time. Alternatively, you can use the opensees command line interface from the workspace tool to submit jobs to the Open Science Grid. The command

is simple to use. You simply give it the name of the opensees tcl file and it will return with the name of the directory where the results will be put. There are many more resources available on the Open Science Grid. However, startup time of your job will be longer because your job must be queued. This URL further explains how to use OSG with Opensees.

Thank you for submitting your wish. In the future, you may want to use the the menu

to ask this type of question. This wish list is really for things you can not do in the hub that will require development by the NEESComm IT tam.
