Reorder Experiments and Trials in PEN/Project Warehouse

There are cases where users may want to reorder their Experiments and Trials after they are uploaded to NEES. Currently, there is no way to do this other than downloading your complete file structure in PEN, deleting it in the warehouse, renaming folders then re-uploading the whole folder system again.

We should introduce a method to order experiments similar to how you can order authors. Then, we can remove the “Experiment-#” and just display the titles.

Thank you for contributing your wish to NEEShub. We value feedback from the community as a means to regularly improve NEEShub. All wishes are considered and prioritized by the Requirement Analysis and Assessment Subcommittee, which consists of members from the user community. The prioritized wishes are then aligned with the immediate and long-term NEES goals by the Cyberinfrastructure Release Committee so that a workable development plan for the next Release of NEEShub can be designed.

The functionality described in your wish now exists in NEEShub as part of Release 6.

Does this exist in PEN and Project Warehouse or just Project Warehouse? I don’t see the option in PEN 2.4.1 to reorder items.

    Hi Tommy,

This is currently available for Project Editor. Let me check with Ian for PEN.

So, how do I go about reordering trials and experiments in Project Editor now? I assume it still doesn't work for PEN.

    Tommy,

I didn’t realize the option was in the preference box. I thought it was enabled by default.

Btw, would you mind cut-n-pasting your email about the PEN delete from higher level issue into a ticket? That way we can assign it to Ian and make sure it is fixed and documented.

Thanks and sorry for any inconvenience this is causing you. It worked in the lab. :)

I assume you mean for the other ticket about top level deleting? I’m sure you’re busting through many wishes right now!

    Hello Tommy,

regarding the ordering. This option is implemented only in the Project Display and it is only the order of experiments . The actual underlying folders remain unchanged, as well as their system-assigned designations such as experiment or trial if and system-provided name.

The parallel with authors a good one but the difference is that while with authors we manipulate only metadata (therefore we could also implement ordering of experiments in the Project Display) . If we were to reorder the experiments also in the PEN, we would need to make major changes to the file system and the database.
