Implementation of PREMIS schema for digital preservation
PREMIS schema contains core preservation metadata needed to support the long-term preservation of digital materials. It establishes a baseline for verification and validation of identity, authenticity, and fixity of digital objects. The PREMIS schema is driven by the the PREMIS Data Dictionary (http://www.loc.gov/standards/premis/v2/premis-2-0.pdf).
Premis is schema that provides framework for tracking changes on files.
The important decision is whether it is more efficient to state the metadata in the xml format or extract them into tables. I imagine – there would be chron job doing this automatically. Technical metadata are part of the validation procedure described in wish #61
