Naeim to serve as Chair of the NEES Operations Governance Board

NEES is pleased to announce that Dr. Farzad Naeim will serve as the first chair of the NEES Governance Board.

NEEScomm is pleased and honored to announce that Dr. Farzad Naeim has agreed to serve as the first chair of the NEES Governance Board. This independent, network-wide, 12-member Governance Board is key to providing strategic oversight of NEES Operations and ensuring that NEES operates with transparency and accountability to NSF and stakeholders. Dr. Naeim brings outstanding credentials to serve as our inaugural chair.

Dr. Naeim is Vice President and General Counsel for John A. Martin & Associates, Inc., one of the largest structural engineering firms in the country. He is the Principal in charge of setting and implementing policies with respect to technical, analytical and legal issues involved in operation of this unique international firm.

John A. Martin & Associates, Incorporated (JAMA), founded in 1953, is located in Los Angeles, California with affiliated offices located throughout the United States and China. The firm provides engineering services throughout the world with a staff of over 100 in Los Angeles and over 400 in affiliate offices. The staff includes experienced structural engineers licensed in all 50 states as well as Puerto Rico and Guam.

Dr. Naeim is recognized world-wide as an authority in evaluating design ground motion issues as they relate to the design of structural systems. He has served as technical director for analysis and design of numerous award-winning JAMA structures, including Excellence in Concrete – 2009 by the American Concrete Institute – Intermountain Chapter Rio Tinto Stadium, Sandy, UT, and Best of 2008 – Performing Arts Award of Merit McGraw-Hill Construction Nokia Theatre at L.A. Live!, Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Naeim also presently serves as president of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute.

The structural engineering community has honored Dr. Naeim's contributions to earthquake engineering with numerous awards, including the prestigious 2007 Fazlur Khan Medal Award for outstanding structural design in high-rise building construction.
