Experiment-2: Test of Diagonally Reinforced Coupling Beam at Aspect Ratio 2.4 with Diagonal Confinement (CB24D)
Experiment Type: Large Scale
Description: This experiment consists of cyclic testing of a diagaonlly reinforced concrete coupling beam with confinement around the diagonal bundles. This confinement represents the only detailing option available prior to ACI 318-08. The beam has aspect ratio (ln/h) 2.4 to represent typical residential construction. The specimen is designated as CB24D or Beam 2. The purpose of the experiment is to provide a control study with which to compare the new detailing option (CB24F). Results indicate that the new detailing option provides strength and ductility equivalent to the older detailing option.
