Experiment-7: Test of Diagonally Reinforced Coupling Beam at Aspect Ratio 3.33 with Diagonal Confinement (CB33D)
Experiment Type: Large Scale
Description: This experiment consists of cyclic testing of a diagaonlly reinforced concrete coupling beam with confinement around the diagonal bundles. This confinement represents the only detailing option available prior to ACI 318-08. The beam has aspect ratio (ln/h) 3.33 to represent typical office construction. The specimen is designated as CB33D or Beam 7. The purpose of the experiment is to provide a control study with which to compare the new detailing option (CB33F). Results indicate that the new detailing option provides strength and ductility equivalent to the older detailing option.
